REHABILITATION SERVICES


St. Joseph Health System's rehabilitation services are provided in the hospital and outpatient settings.  Outpatient rehabilitation services can be scheduled Monday through Friday at several locations.  Appointments can be made by calling any of the Rehabilitation Services department locations below.

Physical Therapy

The St. Joseph Health System physical therapy team consists of licensed physical therapists, physical therapy assistants, physical therapy aides and an office coordinator.  At times, our physical therapy team is expanded to include physical therapy of athletic training students, who come under the guidance of a technical and medical director.

Services

Licensed physical therapists and physical therapy assistants work with individuals who are experiencing pain or lack of mobility due to injury, disease, surgery or congenital problems. Physical therapy services include gait training, manual and mechanical traction, whirlpool, hot and cold packs, phonophoresis, iontophoresis and Cybex evaluation and treatment, ultrasound, diathermy, electrical stimulation and treatment, and patient and family education.

Registered occupational therapists work with individuals who, because of developmental, physical, social or emotional problems, need specialized assistance and training to lead independent and productive lives. Occupational therapy services include ultrasound, electrical stimulation, splinting, hot and cold packs, assisting devices, developing exercises to improve range of motion and strength, and patient and family education.

Speech / language pathologists focus on effective communication and swallowing skills by providing evaluations and treatment, hearing tests, voice training and cognitive retraining. Speech therapy services include individual or group therapy to improve voice, fluency, articulation, language, cognitive linguistics, swallowing, and patient and family education.

Our Rehabilitation Services department is located in the St. Joseph Harbor Health Center in Tawas City, with branches at the AuSable Valley Health Center in Fairview and Oscoda Health Park in Oscoda.

Tawas City hours of operation:

Inpatient physical and occupational therapy: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday
Inpatient speech therapy: Tuesday through Friday, based on therapists' schedule
Outpatient physical and occupational therapy: 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday
Outpatient speech therapy: 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday and Thursday
Oscoda hours of operation:
Outpatient physical therapy: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday
Outpatient occupational therapy: Monday through Thursday, dictated by patient volume
Fairview hours of operation:
Outpatient physical therapy: 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday, Tuesday and Friday
Outpatient occupational therapy: 8 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday
