ERGONOMICS
Ergonomics
Ergonomics is the science of fitting the job to the worker. When there is a mismatch between the physical capacity of a worker and the physical demands of a job, musculoskeletal disorders (MSD's) can result. Each year 1.8 million workers in the United States report work-related MSD's. You should consider an ergonomic assessment if you employ workers who must:
-
repeat the same motion throughout their workday
-
perform their work in an awkward position
-
use a great deal of force to perform their jobs
-
repeatedly lift heavy objects
-
who face a combination of these risk factors
A thorough evaluation is your best chance of ensuring optimal working conditions for your employees. Contact Occupational Health Services for an ergonomic evaluation.
Ergonomic Assessment
An ergonomic assessment is an effective prevention or accommodation strategy that provides a comprehensive analysis of the work environment. Be it office based or an industrial setting, the ergonomic assessment provides recommendations on how to maximize human performance while promoting the well being of the worker. An ergonomic assessement will survey a worker's symptoms, identify the essential tasks, assess for risk, identify controls and provide recommendations for workplace safety and injury prevention or acommodation.
What can you expect from an ergonomic evaluation?
- Individualized assessment
- A comprehensive report containing:
- workstation evaluation
- identification of potentially hazardous working conditions
- recommendations to prevent or decrease the occurrence of injuries
The ergonomic assessment for an individual workstation takes approximately 1 hour to complete. The extent of the service is dependent upon the client's request.
Ergonomics Training
Ergonomics training module provides individuals in the workplace an introduction to the knowledge necessary to identify and reduce the risk of musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs).
After completing this training, participants should know:
- What ergonomics is.
- What musculoskeletal disorders (MSDs) are.
- How to identify and reduce the risks for MSDs at work and at home.
- How to perform exercises to help reduce the risks of MSDs.
