FITNESS FOR DUTY
Fitness for Duty Examinations
A fitness for duty (FFD) examination is a special medical evaluation performed to determine if an employee is mentally or physically capable of performing the essential functions of a job without risk of injury to themselves or co-workers. It is also used as a "return to work" evaluation after employees have been off work due to a medical condition.
Most employers who take a pro-active approach to employee health usually require a FFD exam if any employee is out more than five days. FFD exams are also useful in the event of a job transfer by an employee to determine, like a post job offer examination, whether they can meet the essential job functions.
FFD's:
-
Are used for employees with a physical or mental condition which could affect job performance.
-
Assure that your employees can safely return to work after an injury or illness.
-
Evaluation procedures include a review of all pertinent documents and records, physical exam, mental status exam and additional testing/consultation if required.
-
Exams are performed by experienced providers that know the physical demands of the workplace.
-
The written report gives a determination if the employee is fit for duty or not; if tesing or examination is needed.
-
Our providers work closely with the patient's provider to expedite a safe return to work.
-
A follow-up process is available for recommendations and re-testing to ensure fitness for duty.
